8 Types of Fashion Styles

Although fashion is all about finding unique ways to dress, sometimes it’s helpful to have a style blueprint. Below are some of the broadest categories of Fashion Trendy Styles to help get you started.

1. Sporty: Also known as athleisure, sporty style incorporates elements of athletic wear such as leggings, bike shorts, and oversize sweatshirts into everyday wear.

2. Bohemian: Also known as “boho” or “boho chic,” bohemian style is inspired by hippie culture of the 1960s. Earth tones, natural fabrics and dyes, and prints and accessories from all over the world are incorporated into the style. Boho style is characterized by flowing maxi dresses, long skirts, bell-bottom pants, hats with large brims, fringe, and suede handbags.

3. Grunge: Inspired by the grunge movement of the 1980s and 1990s, grunge fashion consists of thrift-store finds like plaid flannel shirts, oversized knits, and feminine dresses that are subversive and disheveled. Black boots, unkempt hairstyles, and ripped jeans are often associated with grunge looks.

4. Preppy: The Preppy style is influenced by the clothing and uniforms worn at East Coast prep schools and Ivy League colleges. Horseback riding, sailing, tennis, and polo are all examples of upper-class sports that influence preppy style. Cloth-wrapped headbands, boat shoes, blazers, pearls, cardigans, khaki pants, and argyle sweaters and socks are among the typical outfits of preps.

5. Punk: Punk fashion is influenced by the subversive punk rock styles of the 1970s and 1980s and consists of many subcultures that each follow their own style codes. Black skinny jeans, ripped fishnet stockings, leather jackets, deconstructed blazers, and chunky black boots are some overarching elements of punk style. Safety pins and patches are common features of punk clothing, as are provocative messages and band logos. The style of punk grooming includes spiked hair, dyed hair, and heavy black eyeliner.

6. Streetwear: First popularized in the 1990s, streetwear is a casual fashion style. There are logo T-shirts and crop tops, sweatshirts, baggy pants, and expensive sneakers incorporated into this style. Hip-hop and skater styles are incorporated into streetwear, which adds the element of intentional scarcity to the product. Many hypebeasts purchase limited-edition designer baseball caps, hoodies, sneakers, and other items to keep up with the latest streetwear trends.

7. Classic: Classic style encompasses an everyday look with blazers, pencil skirts, and khakis, all incorporating workwear elements. If you want to look your best in the office or other professional settings, this more professional look is appropriate.

8. Casual: This is what you might wear on the weekend. Wear jeans, a comfortable T-shirt, and sneakers or flat boots. Casual styles include streetwear and sporty styles, but casual style can also be preppy or hip.
